Behind the Door, Lucky #13

Hi, folks!

Happy Holidays.

As I write this, I’m on hold with American Airlines, and have been on hold for 50 minutes. They lost my daughter’s reservation for a flight to the east coast. It has ceased to exist. I’m excited to see her reaction when I try to sneak her into my packed luggage.

Speaking of the east coast, I’m headed to Seton Hall University for a January Residency. If you’re nearby, I’m giving a public lecture January 6 at 7-9 pm entitled: How Writing Speculate Fiction Could Make You Superman. The location is the performing arts center at Johnson Rehearsal Hall. Sometimes I have to name my lectures. Sometimes I panic.

In other news, The Keeper, The Missing, and Audrey’s Door went on sale in the US last week. You can now order them anywhere and they have spanking new covers. It’s been nearly 20 years since The Keeper came out, and I remember that this was my hope– people would still be reading it. The publisher is Open Road, editor Stefan Dziemianowicz, art director Amanda Shaffer.

Both The Keeper and The Missing are also in the UK via Canelo Press, and someone spotted them in a bookstore in Stockholm, which is very cool!

In additional news, while putting together this newsletter I accidentally deleted the emails of several of the people who signed up. My bad!

UK Trad Wife galleys are alive and people are reading AS I TYPE AND I CAN’T WAIT TO HEAR WHAT THEY THINK.

I’m working on a short story over the break, and in January will adapt Pam Kowolski is a Monster! as a screenplay. My next book is also cooking.

My family and I are in the lucky position most Christmases that we don’t need anything. We want things, but we don’t need them. I sometimes feel that all the gifts and unwrapping on Christmas morning is excessive and maybe a little hurtful to the soul. It’s supposed to be a day of celebration, but it becomes: What did you get? So, basically what I’m saying here is that I’ve joined team Grinch.

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas! I hope your 2026 is great.

The good news on this end is that someone at American Airlines answered the phone at one hour seventeen minutes, found Frances’ reservation in ten minutes and she will not have to travel in a backpack.

Sincerely,

Sarah
